Insinuating that those who have a different way of approaching the media are ill, overwhelmed by 'fear' and 'pain' and 'in need of help' is a real cracker. But hey, we all need an Andrew Bolt to save us.
Twins
Recently, my life took a rather dramatic turn, as I became a father for the second time. And then one more time a minute after that. Yes, twins – the perfect way to infuse your wholesome dreams of joyful family life with a cruel, bitter irony.
I remember quite clearly the day we found out we were having twins. “I’m seeing double,” said the ultrasound operator, and I tell you, never before have I wished so fervently for a complete stranger to be suffering from an ocular disorder.
Of course, honestly, to be expecting a baby, and then find out it’s twins is an amazing feeling. It’s a bit like waiting for a present to arrive at Christmas time, and then hearing the postman at the door, but instead of giving you just one present, he tells you your life is over.
Home Dads In The Wild - Sam
Due to the popularity of the Sam The Emu interview, I now offer you the transcript of the interview I did with Donald the Sand Goby. These interviews were conducted as part of a series titled, ‘Home Dads in the Wild’ and I feel great that they’re up and running again.
Next week I will be chasing down a male seahorse to continue the series, thanks to a tip off by Kay - a visitor to the website. Thanks Kay! I have already made contact with a seahorse named Lance. This could potentially be a very interesting interview because after organising to meet at his fish tank abode on Wednesday, Lance informed me that he’s pregnant!!! Stay tuned.
My conversation with Donald the Sand Goby is below. As with the Sam the Emu interview, it didn’t end well. I’m starting to think that I may be specie-ist…
Reservoir Dad: I did a bit of research on you guys. I was impressed, first of all, that you spent so much time building a nest, looking after the eggs and basically giving the women of your species a break. I mean that’s basically an example of what we humans call ‘Mentally Sexy’.
Donald: Thanks, man. Appreciate it. The males in our species have a long history of being there for our offspring. We really enjoy being involved. We care.
RD: So, how do I get to this next question… shit, I’ll just go ahead and say it and you can respond as you please.
Donald: Okay…
RD: So. You eat your babies…
Donald: We what? Eat our… No we don’t.

Listeners will then be able to go to their website to vote for the Dad they think should win The Listener’s Choice Award. Good to see some healthy competition developing in the race for The People’s Choice Award. We now have three contestants – Mentally Sexy Tim, Mentally Sexy Mark and Mentally Sexy Anthony with votes in the thousands! Cripes! The voting for The People's Choice Award will stay open until October 7. Just to point out again – this supplementary prize has nothing to do with the Top Five Dads or the eventual winner of the title. That's in the hands of the judges.

Firstly, what a great title! Do we discover the answer? You’ll have to read the book won’t you. This is a great book, full of practical advice and funny stories straight from the ample nappy bag of Joe Schatz, a stay-at-home-Dad of 3 daughters, and creator of the Dad Blogs hub over in the US. It is an honest and open account of his experiences looking after three very busy, and very different little girls. If you’re a stay-at-home-Dad who is looking for confirmation that what you’re doing is worthwhile, and that you‘re not in fact going mad, buy this book! It would also be a great book to give to partners, or relatives, or even ex-work mates who may be a little mystified by the fact that you are at home while your partner is out earning the dollars.
