My Crossfit Trainer Sucks - Joey

22 January 2012

First workout

  • Power Clean
  • Hang Clean
  • Push Jerk

Every 30 secs for 20 mins. That's 40 reps of each exercise. 120 in total. First 10 rounds @ 35 kgs the last 30 @ 45kg

2nd Workout (Thanks to my awesome Crossfit Trainer, James.)

For time complete

  • 2 x plate raises (it’s almost a hang clean and press using bumper plates, nowhere near as strict with my form though)
  • 4 x push ups on the plates. (The crappy thing here is, for each 1 push up on the plates, you had to do one on the ground. So, you did ground, then plate then ground, and this was only counted as 1)
  • 4 x Plate raises
  • 8 x Push ups on the plates (total 24)
  • 6 x plates raises
  • 12 x push ups on plates(total 36)
  • 8 x plate raises
  • 16 x push ups (total 44)
  • 10x plate raises
  • 20 x pushups on the plate(total 60)

I sent James a text (my Crossfit trainer man) yesterday, just to confirm we were on for today and to let him know that I can no longer use my legs, and that I would be struggling to even walk into the gym, let alone do a workout. His text in return showed some sympathy, and I felt a little comforted by this. So this morning, after working last night, I got up early to get the kids off to school, and off I went to Crossfit Geelong.  When I walk in James greets me with, "lets stretch your legs out, your right for some cleans yeah??" I nod and move on. Then the workout is explained. Everything except how many rounds I have to do. I thought this sounds alright, I should be able to do this, then I asked the question, 'what are we doing this for time or something?' I wasn't overly impressed by the answer that James mumbled under his breath as he slipped some weights onto the bar. '20 friggin minutes!! That's like 40 rounds, and like 40 reps of each, oh my god, that's 120 reps! You suck!' is how my response went.

A few seconds later, the timer was on. It was a hard workout, but it was manageable, I started to go a bit wonky towards the end and would hate to have seen what I looked like doing my last round! I clapped after my final round, stocked that I had actually finished it without throwing up. As I lay on the ground struggling to breath, I ask James if I have finished. He kindly responded, ' nah I have this strongman workout I want you to try.' See above.

This workout only took 12 and a half mins. I don't think I have ever sweated so much in my life. By the time I had got to my round of 12 pushups (total 36) I was wanting to die.  I tried telling myself that I only had two rounds after this left but it didn't help as I knew they were the toughest two rounds. I actually don't even know how I finished, I didn't count any of my pushups and just hoped James was doing that for me. My plan was just to keep going! I'm not even sure if I was doing chest to ground, James wasn't yelling at me as usual, so I figure I was either doing it right or he was feeling sorry for me!

All in all a good session. Thanks James!!!!! Off to eastern beach for some stairs tomorrow with my training buddies, Leigh, Glenn, Nathan and Pete. Getting a few involved now.
