Crossfit = Fit To Die (Joey)

17 January 2012

Circuit. 7 Rounds of -

  • thrusters 40kgx3, 30kgx4
  • K/B Swings - 16pounds
  • Box Jumps
  • Medicine Ball Sit ups - 9kgs
  • Pushups

Then five 20 meter trips of sled - 2 rounds

Then Five Minute Rounds of

  • 3 min AMRAMP
  • Power Cleans @ 40kgs
  • Farmers Walks
  • 1 min AMRAP - knees to elbows
  • 1 minute rest

This was very, very tough Crossfit class. All the regulars said this was one of the hardest classes they’d done for ages. I went in with Leigh and Nathan and probably wouldn’t have done anything if it wasn’t for them.

It was an outdoor class. We had to carry all the gear out onto the oval and set up the course. We did seven rounds of thrusters (see video below for description), kettlebell swings, box jumps, medicine ball situps, push ups and knee tucks. The only rest between exercises was the time it took to run from one exercise to the other. That was a killer on its own.

Then we followed up with the sled supersetted with burpees and then five minute rounds of the last five exercises listed above.

I was doing the thrusters with a 40kg barbell and couldn’t quite finish the seven and had to drop the weight to 30kg. I was pissed off because the other women seemed to be powering through it. But I was talking to someone afterwards and they mentioned that all the other girls had been using 28kg the entire time. I was happier then.

Running some hills tomorrow morning with Leigh and my brother RD. Right now I’m chewing through some pork crackle. Lots and lots of fat and protein. I’m going to need it.

RD was right, you are a machine. I'm just sick of my body giving up on me. I've had bursitis in my foot and now my hip. And, I'm jealous of your ability to do what you do and have no injury. So I'm going to give aqua running a go later this week. Hopfully I can recover and maintain my cardio fitness all at once!
Love reading your RD Gym posts.
Lastly, did you whip him on the hill???

      Hi Leah,

Thanks. I worked really hard to get where I am and I have had my share of injuries as well. When i very first started out about 3 years ago, I couldn't even run around the block. I kept trying though and eventually ran my very first 5k without stopping. I was so proud. After that though, I started pushing myself so much harder and I think I went too hard to soon and had knee and hip troubles. Not like yours but enough to slow me down and I almost felt like I was starting again. I now can read my body a bit better though and slow down when I need to. It was just recently I had a shoulder issue, I had to stop doing pull ups for a while and had to limit my upper body stuff. Don't give up, your body sometime just needs a bit more time to catch up!! Make sure you do what RM tells you, she has helped me lots of times - and you will be back at it in no time. :) Good luck
P.S. I will post my hill workout shortly. Bwt, I think I kicked his oversize glutes!
