Bringing Up My Bench Press - RD

20 January 2012

High Bar Squat – worked up to 190kg x 1. Back off set – 160x5

Sumo Deadlift – 4x2 @ 160kg, 4x2 @ 180

Bench Press – worked up to 160kg x 1.

Back off sets – 120x5, 130x3, 140x3 The last leg of the road trip! On the way back home to Lara with a stop-over at my sister, Joey’s, house. While she kept an eye on crazy antics of the cousins I headed back to Derrimut Gym. I was feeling a bit fatigued and sleep deprived so was very happy to feel a rise in energy as I warmed up on the squats. The high bar/narrow stance squats have been tough for me to get used to after squatting a powerlifting style for so many years – bar lower on the back, stance wider. So very happy to get to 190 and drive it up fast and with good form. I really feel like things are starting to come together.

Was also pretty pumped with the bench. I had no training partner so had to unrack the weight myself and the 160 was tough but still fast and if I had a spotter I would have had a crack at 170. Getting back to 140kg for the back off set was also pleasing. I felt like I had more energy but was feeling guilty about Joey being stuck at home with six crazy boys so headed home feeling pretty pumped.

Of course tomorrow I have to head up to do some hill runs so I’m betting she’ll make me pay for it. My feelings right now are that I hope it doesn't mess with my next squat session. Always keep your eye on the prize!
